Life & career
Choe Mun-sun, a native of Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, studied English education at Kangwon National University and earned a master's degree in English literature at Seoul National University. He spent 24 years as an MBC journalist, led the founding of the Korean media workers' union in 1998, and served as the youngest-ever president of MBC from 2005 to 2008.
He entered politics as a proportional National Assembly member in 2008, then was elected Governor of Gangwon Province in a 2011 by-election and won two further terms, serving until 2022 and overseeing preparations for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
