Life & career

Gam Gyeong-in (1569-1648) was a mid-Joseon military officer of the Hoesan Gam clan, born in Changwon, South Gyeongsang. His courtesy name was Yeoil and his pen name Gwansuljeong. His father is given as Gam Ye-jong and his mother as a daughter of Park Jong of the Pannam Park clan.

He passed the military examination in 1588, and when the Imjin War broke out in 1592 he joined Yi Sun-sin's camp with his brother Gam Gyeong-ryun and distinguished himself, becoming Yeodo Manho. He later served in the Naegeumwi, held the rank Jeongnyak Janggun and was listed as a Wonjong merit subject.

In 1606 he was sent to Tsushima with Jeon Gye-sin and others, staying about a year; he is said to have negotiated with the lord So Yoshitoshi to have a letter corrected, to have brought back two tomb-desecration offenders and Tachibana Tomomasa, and to have returned with more than 150 captives. After his death the Chunghunbu gave him the shrine title Samnyeol and he was enshrined at Samnyeolsa. His collected works are Samnyeoldang Munjip.
