Gonghui-gong-pa, Sijung-gong-pa, Hojang-gong-pa
The Gonghui-gong branch, also called the Hoesan-gun branch, descends from Hwang Seok-gi (黃石奇), who was enfeoffed as Hoesan-gun in late Goryeo and became a chancellery minister (munha sirang dong jungseo munha pyeongjangsa) in 1358. Originally the Hoewon Hwang, known as the "Tang Hwang," it became part of the Changwon Hwang when Uichang and Hoewon were merged into Changwon in 1408.
His son Hwang Sang (黃裳) served as chancellery deputy and western river commander. Later members include Hwang Hyeong (黃衡), minister of works; his great-grandson Hwang Sin (黃愼), minister of taxation and Hoewon Prince-Consort; and Hwang Sa-yeong (黃嗣永), martyred in the Catholic persecution of 1801.
The Sijung-gong branch takes as its founder Hwang Chung-jun (黃忠俊), chancellor (munha sijung) under King Chungnyeol of Goryeo; because the following generations are uncertain, it counts Hwang Sin (黃信), a minister of works and punitive general, as its first ancestor. It was originally the native Uichang Hwang, known as the "Native Hwang."
Hwang Sin's son Hwang Geo-jeong (黃居正) became a founding merit subject of Joseon, and his sixth-generation descendant Hwang Rim (黃琳) became a Gwangguk merit subject, enfeoffed as Uiseong-gun. In late Joseon, Hwang Jae (黃梓) and his sons Hwang In-geom (黃仁儉), minister of punishments, and Hwang In-jeom (黃仁點), husband of King Yeongjo's daughter Princess Hwayu, were well known.
The Hojang-gong branch descends from Hwang Yang-chung (黃亮沖), who settled in Changwon and served as its headman (hojang) in Goryeo. The hojang line is also said to include sub-lines founded by Hwang Jon-u (黃存祐) and Hwang U-yong (黃祐龍).
His descendant Hwang Sa-u (黃士祐, 1486-1536) passed a special civil examination at the top grade under King Jungjong and served as minister of taxation, rites and personnel before becoming right associate councillor. His son Hwang Eung-gyu (黃應奎), a disciple of Yi Hwang, became a councillor of the Royal Kinship Office, and his grandson Hwang Seom (黃暹) served as deputy director of the Office of Special Counselors and inspector-general.
