Chae Hong-won (1762-1832) was a late Joseon official of the Pyeonggang seat. He was taken in as adopted heir of chief state councillor Chae Je-gong, his birth father being Chae Min-gong (蔡敏恭), a relative of Chae Je-gong. He is listed as the adopted heir in the Wikipedia article on Chae Je-gong's family and is said to have passed the civil examination in 1792.
His adoptive father was then advancing from left councillor toward chief state councillor. What offices Chae Hong-won held was not confirmed here and is not stated, so little is recorded of his career.
His descendants are said to include Chae Gwa-yeong (1804-1852), who passed the examination in 1852, and great-grandson Chae Dong-sul (1841-1881), who passed in 1861 but was executed in 1881 and had his rank restored in 1908. This shows a family producing examination graduates across generations. The photograph shown is not of Chae Hong-won himself but of the tomb of his adoptive father, Chae Je-gong.
Born to Chae Min-gong, a relative of Chae Je-gong, he became Chae Je-gong's adopted heir.
He is said to have passed the civil examination in 1792; his later career was not confirmed here.
His son Chae Gwa-yeong and great-grandson Chae Dong-sul are said to have passed in 1852 and 1861 respectively.
His own tomb was not confirmed here. (The photo shows the tomb of his adoptive father Chae Je-gong.)
