Kim Young-sam was a Korean politician who served as the 14th President (1993-1998). Entering politics as the youngest-ever member of the National Assembly, he was elected to the Assembly nine times, and for a long period, as an opposition leader, he led the democratization movement against the military regimes.
During his presidency, he abruptly implemented the real-name financial transaction system and the real-name real estate system, fully implemented local autonomy, and disbanded the private military faction Hanahoe within the army. He demolished the old Japanese Government-General building and pursued "setting history right" by prosecuting those involved in the December 12 coup and the May 18 (Gwangju) events, as well as former presidents. At the end of his term, the nation was struck by the foreign exchange crisis (the IMF crisis).
