Gong Min-ji (b. 1994), stage name Minzy, is a singer, rapper and dancer from Seoul. Wikipedia lists her seat as Gokbu Gong and describes her as a grandniece (through the maternal line) of the traditional dancer Gong Ok-jin. She won dance contests as a child, and a video of a competition in Gwangju is said to have gone viral and led YG Entertainment to recruit her around sixth grade.
After about four years of training she debuted in May 2009 as the youngest member and main dancer of the girl group 2NE1 with 'Fire'. 2NE1 became one of the best-known girl groups worldwide, and she handled rap, vocals and dance. In October 2015, while the group was on hiatus, she opened the Millennium Dance Academy in Seoul; she left 2NE1 and YG on 5 April 2016, then signed with Music Works to go solo.
Her solo releases include the March 2017 OST single 'I Wanted to Love' for The Rebel, the April 2017 EP Minzy Work 01 'Uno' (title track 'Ninano'), her first English single 'All of You Say' (2018), 'Lovely' (2020, as an independent artist), and 'Teamo' and 'Gigalna' (2021). She founded MZ Entertainment in October 2020 and is said to have won an Artist Award at the 2021 Korea Grand Prize Awards. This entry covers public professional activity only.
