Goryeo-pa

Goryeo-pa (高麗派)

The Goryeo branch is the Korean line of the Kong clan, descended from Kong So (孔紹), 54th-generation descendant of Confucius; it is recorded as the 'Goryeo branch' in the Chinese Kongzi Shijia Pu (孔子世家譜). A Hanlin academician of the Yuan court, Kong So came to Goryeo in 1351 escorting Princess Noguk, became naturalized, rose to munha sirang pyeongjangsa, and was enfeoffed as Lord Hoewon (檜原君).

Taking Changwon as its seat, the clan was known as the Changwon Kong until 1794 (18th year of King Jeongjo), when it was granted Gokbu (Qufu) as its bon-gwan. It later divided into sub-branches such as the Saengwon-gong, Hoean-gun, Jubu-gong, Gamchal-gong, Jangseong and Jehak-gong branches; Kong Seo-rin (孔瑞麟), inspector-general under King Jungjong, is a representative figure.
