Gwak Jae-u (郭再祐, 1552–1617) was a mid-Joseon righteous army leader. His courtesy name was Gyesu and his pen name Mangudang, and he was known as the 'Red-Robed General'. The Encyclopedia of Dalseong Culture identifies his ancestral seat as Hyeonpung. His father was 곽월, who served as Magistrate of Uiju, among other posts.
He led a righteous army, and his official posts included Magistrate of Seongju and Magistrate of Jinju. In 1709 he was given the posthumous title Chungik (忠翼).
Sites honoring him include Chungiksa in Uiryeong (1972) and Mangudang Park in Daegu (1972, spanning Hyomok-dong in Dong-gu and Manchon-dong in Suseong-gu). His birthplace in Segan-ri, Yugok-myeon, Uiryeong was restored in 2005. The Chungikgong branch in the Hyeonpung Gwak generation-name table shares his posthumous title, but no evidence was found that he founded that branch.
His father was 곽월, who passed a special civil examination in 1556 and served as Magistrate of Uiju, among other posts.
