Gwak An-bang (郭安邦) lived in the early Joseon period. His courtesy name was Yeoju (汝柱), and he was also known as Master Cheongbaek. The Encyclopedia of Daegu History and Culture identifies his ancestral seat as Hyeonpung.
For military service during the Yi Si-ae Rebellion, he was made a Wonjong merit subject. He served as Magistrate of Iksan and was chosen as an incorruptible official (cheongbaengni) under King Sejo. The Yongin Citizens' Newspaper dates his service to 'the first year of Sejo (1455)', but the Yi Si-ae Rebellion broke out in 1467, so that date appears to be an error.
In 1467, the 13th year of Sejo, he settled in Sollye (Sorye) village in Dae 1-ri, Hyeonpung-eup, Dalseong County, becoming its first settler. Sollye is the mother village of the Hyeonpung Gwak clan and the site of its head family house. Iyang Seowon in Sollye enshrines him as its principal figure. Tradition also tells of the 'Hyeongwak Palju (玄郭八走)': eight brothers of the 'Ju (走)' generation, his great-great-grandsons, who won wide renown.
