Life & career

His courtesy name was Ogyeo and his pen name Mukjae. A disciple of Yi I and Seong Hon, during the Imjin War he worked to procure military provisions and support the righteous armies.

In 1623, together with Kim Yu, Choe Myeong-gil, and others, he led the Injo Restoration coup that overthrew Prince Gwanghae and enthroned Prince Neungyang (King Injo), for which he was enrolled as a first-class Jeongsa merit subject and enfeoffed as Lord of Yeonpyeong (Yeonpyeong Buwongun). He later served as Minister of Personnel and second vice-chancellor (jwachanseong).

He actively engaged in practical politics, submitting many memorials on national defense and reform.

Descendants

His son Yi Si-baek rose to chief state councillor, and Yi Si-bang also served as a minister.
