Life & career

Jeong Hyeon-baek (정현백), a native of Busan, majored in history education and Western history at Seoul National University and earned her doctorate in German history at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany.

From 1986 to 2017 she served as a professor in the Department of History at Sungkyunkwan University, researching women's history and modern and contemporary German history. She also took part in civic and women's movements, serving as co-representative of the Korea Women's Associations United and co-representative of the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD).

From July 2017 to September 2018 she served as the 6th Minister of Gender Equality and Family. Her works include Nation and Feminism, Rewriting Women's History, and Korean Women's History Read in the Global Age.
