Jin Sik (陳寔, 1519-1568) was an early Joseon official from the Yeoyang seat, courtesy name Nagi. According to the Encyclopedia of Korean Culture he was a great-grandson of Jin Chi-jung, grandson of Jin Yu, son of the licentiate Jin Bok-myeong, and his mother was a daughter of Hwang Jin. He is a different person from the Goryeo Grand Censor Jin Sik (陳湜).
He passed the 1547 Alseong civil examination and held successive prestigious posts such as Examiner, Rites Reporter, Remonstrator and Personnel Section Chief, then from 1556 to 1559 served as secretary in the Ministry of Military Affairs and in other posts. Between 1560 and 1563 he was Vice Minister of Punishments, Governor of Uiju, and Royal Secretary.
In 1564 he went to Ming China as a Seongjeol envoy and became Vice Minister of Personnel; in 1566-67 he was Grand Remonstrator and then Vice Director of the Office of Special Counselors before retiring. He is remembered as a man of spirit who impeached the faction of the powerful minister Kim An-ro.
Jin Sik passed through prestigious posts such as Examiner and Remonstrator, and served as Vice Minister of Punishments, Governor of Uiju and Royal Secretary. In late career he became Grand Remonstrator and Vice Director of Special Counselors, both among the senior posts that advise the king.
The name Jin Sik appears twice in the clan: the Goryeo Grand Censor Jin Sik (陳湜), founder of Eosa-gong, and this Joseon Jin Sik (陳寔). The characters differ and the eras are some 350 years apart. His branch was not confirmed here.
