Scholar recommended for learning and conduct; pen name Gukdam; author of the Injaechaek
| Era | 조선 중기 |
| Clan | 장흥 임씨 |
Im Hui-jung was a scholar of King Myeongjong's reign with the pen name Gukdam. The Korean Wikipedia article does not state his seat but places him in the Jangheung Im category, and the English Wikipedia entry on the clan introduces him as a scholar who founded a school. His dates, courtesy name and family are not confirmed. It says only that he was a close friend of Im Eok-ryeong.
Under Myeongjong he passed both the saengwon and jinsa examinations but had no desire for office. He was recommended several times for learning and conduct, served briefly as Jwatongnye, retired, and was posthumously made Vice Minister of Personnel. He devoted himself to study rather than office and after retirement worked on teaching younger scholars and on scholarship.
His works include the well-known Injaechaek and the Gukdam Yugo, and the Gukdam Yugo is held at the East Asia Library of UC Berkeley and elsewhere. Because the Wikipedia article is a stub, details of his life should be checked in other sources. He can be cited as an example of a Joseon Jangheung Im member who left a name through local scholarship and teaching rather than office, in contrast to the military figure Im Gye-yeong.
He is said to have devoted himself to learning and to teaching. Details were not confirmed.
The Gukdam Yugo is said to be held at the East Asia Library of UC Berkeley and elsewhere. See also the Jangheung Im page.
His tomb was not confirmed.
