Song Dae-rip (1550-1597) was a mid-Joseon military officer of the Yeosan Song clan and the eldest of three brothers, the others being Song Hui-rip and Song Jeong-rip; all three fought in the Imjin War. He is said to have studied the classics, history and martial arts and to have passed the military examination in 1594. His family came from Maryun village in Heungyang (today Goheung), and the clan places him in the Wonyun-gong branch.
He served in the navy under Yi Sun-sin, who recognized his courage and recommended him to Commander-in-Chief Gwon Yul. He is said to have accompanied Yi Sun-sin on the road to rebuilding the fleet during the second invasion.
In 1597, with forces short, he raised volunteers at Cheomsan in his home Heungyang. He is said to have driven off a Japanese fleet at Boseong harbor and lured another into a trap at Mangjeopo where it was largely destroyed, but he was shot dead by hidden troops in an ambush. King Seonjo posthumously gave him the post of Vice Minister of War, a first-class merit rank and a memorial gate.
The three Song brothers of Goheung, Song Dae-rip, Song Hui-rip and Song Jeong-rip, are known as a family who all went to war. A shrine honoring the brothers in Goheung, South Jeolla is introduced as Jeollanam-do Monument No. 110, but its exact name and the figures enshrined could not be confirmed.
The location of his tomb could not be confirmed.
He had three sons (Song Nul, Song Gyeom and Song Sim); Song Gyeom is said to have served as magistrate of Haman.
