Son-in-law of Taejo as husband of Princess Uiryeong, enfeoffed Gyecheon-gun (Gyecheon-wi) and earlier Gaeseong-gun; posthumous title Hoan
| Life | 1379 ~ 1457 |
| Era | 조선 초기 |
| Clan | 개성 이씨 |
Yi Deung (李登, 1379-1457) of the Gaeseong Yi was the son of Yi Deok-si (Yi Gae). He married Princess Uiryeong, an illegitimate daughter of Taejo Yi Seong-gye by Chandeok Ju, and had four sons and three daughters.
He was appointed a general in 1400 (2nd year of Jeongjong), enfeoffed Gaeseong-gun in 1422 and Gyecheon-gun in 1435. In 1450, the year Munjong took the throne, the title for royal sons-in-law was changed and he became Gyecheon-wi (啓川尉). He died in 1457 (3rd year of Sejo) at 79, with the posthumous title Hoan (胡安).
Sources differ on the dates of his enfeoffment. The Unity News profile of the clan says he was made Gyecheon-gun in the 5th year of King U and Gaeseong-gun in the 4th year of Sejong, which conflicts in order and date with the Digital Dobong Encyclopedia. Since someone born in 1379 is unlikely to have been enfeoffed in U's 5th year (1379), the latter is followed here with both noted.
He married Princess Uiryeong, an illegitimate daughter of Taejo; her mother is recorded as Chandeok Ju. Made a general in 1400, he later received princely titles under Sejong and the honors due a royal son-in-law.
His tomb is at Musu-gol in Dobong-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul. A stele to the Gaeseong Yi ancestors erected in 1978 stands nearby, making it a place of remembrance for the clan in Seoul. Whether it is a designated site was not confirmed here.
His grave is at San 85 Dobong-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, up the stream from the Jeonju Yi Yeonghaegun-pa cemetery at Musu-gol, behind the stele to the Gaeseong Yi ancestors erected in 1978. The upper grave is Yi Deung's and the lower one is Princess Uiryeong's.
He had four sons and three daughters with Princess Uiryeong.
