The clan traces its founding ancestor to Park Ji-yun, said to be the father-in-law of Goryeo's founder Taejo, and is also known as the Pyeongju Park. In the 2015 Census the 평산 박씨 clan numbered about 1,319 people, one of Korea's major surnames and clans. Even among people surnamed 박, a different clan seat (bon-gwan, 평산) means a different lineage. New to these terms? See the bon-gwan, pa & hangnyeol guide.
Over the generations the 평산 박씨 clan divided into several branches (pa). Confirm which branch your family belongs to through your jokbo or clan association. See the bon-gwan, pa & hangnyeol guide.
박지윤(founder·said to be Taejo's father-in-law), 박인량(Goryeo official under Munjong·Sohwajip), 박경인(Participant in Governance under Yejong)

The Pyeongsan Park takes Pyeongsan County (formerly Pyeongju, now in North Hwanghae) as its seat and was also called the Pyeongju Park. The founding ancestor Park Ji-yun (朴智胤) is said to have been the father of a Park consort of Goryeo's Taejo and to have risen to Samjungdaegwang Sijung; because his family lived in Pyeongsan for generations, descendants took it as their seat. Some texts count him as a 31st-generation descendant of Park Hyeokgeose.
Accounts of the clan's lineage differ. Some general overviews of the Park clans describe it as branching from the Juksan Park, the line of Grand Prince Jukseong (Park Eon-rip), but standard encyclopedic sources describe Park Ji-yun's line on its own without stating this link, so the connection is best treated as one tradition among several.
Census figures give 1,274 people in 1985, 1,156 in 2000 and 1,319 in 2015, making it a small seat. Because Pyeongsan lies in present-day North Korea, no public information on clan villages was found.
Consorts of Taejo known as Lady Seongmu, Lady Wolgyeongwon and Lady Mongnyangwon are described as linked to this family, and such marriage ties are said to have underpinned the family's early Goryeo standing.
Leading figures include Park In-ryang, who passed the exam under Munjong and was famed for diplomatic writings to Song and Liao, and Park Gyeong-in, who took part in the Jurchen campaign under Yejong and rose to Participant in Governance. Park Jong-hyeon is said to have helped put down Jeong Jung-bu's revolt, and Park Hyo-su was known for his integrity. Some sources record Park In-ryang's seat as Juksu, so his attribution varies.
Only a handful of Joseon-era passers are recorded: two military graduates (Park Juk-bong in 1637, Park Ui-dal in 1651) and one samasi graduate (Park Yun-geol). The dates in the source are partly inconsistent, so please check the genealogy for details.
The branch structure, clan-association website and generation names of the Pyeongsan Park were not found in public sources for this survey. Please take care not to confuse it with other clans using the same seat, such as the Pyeongsan Sin.
