Park In-ryang passed the civil examination under King Munjong and rose through posts such as Deputy Royal Secretary, Vice Minister of Rites and, under King Sukjong, Right Vice Minister and Participant in Governance. His courtesy name was Daecheon, pen name Sohwa, and posthumous title Munyeol. He is presented as a leading figure of the Pyeongsan Park, though some sources give his seat as Juksu (Juksan), so the attribution varies.
In 1075, when Liao sought to set its border east of the Yalu, he is said to have drafted a memorial arguing for the river as the boundary, and Liao withdrew its claim. In 1080 he went to Song as an envoy with Kim Geun and was praised for his poetry; a joint collection, the Sohwajip, was printed in China. He is credited with a ten-volume Gogeumnok that has not survived, and is sometimes named as author of the Silla tale collection Suijeon, though other attributions exist.
