The Uiheung Park clan (義興 朴氏) is seated at Uiheung-myeon, Gunwi, Daegu. According to tradition its founder Park Eul-gyu (朴乙規) was originally a member of the Goryeo royal Wang family of Gaeseong who served as Minister of Military Affairs in late Goryeo. When Joseon was founded and the Wang family was persecuted, he is said to have hidden at Geoui-dong, Chunseong, Danyang, and under King Taejong adopted his mother's surname Park, with his descendants taking Uiheung as their seat. The original ancestor is given as Goryeo's Taejo.
The middle generations were lost, and the line is said to continue from his grandson Park Deuk-seo (朴得瑞, 3rd generation), who some sources call the revered ancestor. Sources give the founder's surname as either Park or Wang; this is clan tradition and not independently verified.
Unlike most Park clans, it is not of the Silla Bak Hyeokgeose line but is said to be a Wang family that changed its surname, so it is not part of the eight-prince lines or the King Pasa line.
The 2015 census gives 7,948. Although the seat is Uiheung, the main clan village in mid-Joseon was around Mudo-ri, Songhak-myeon, Jecheon, where descendants of Park Su-geom (pen name Imho) settled, spreading to Songhak, Cheongpung and Guryong-ri. Records cite 98 households in Geumseong-myeon, Jecheon (1964), 2,713 people in Jecheon County (1977) and 180 households/547 people in Jecheon City (2000).
The Jecheon, Cheongpung and Haengjeong-gong branches are listed. Their founders could not be verified from public sources, so no branch cards are given.
Namu Wiki names Park Geun, enrolled as a Jwaik merit subject under King Sejo. It also lists a Park Seung-jong in the Jungjong period, but the well-known Chief State Councillor Park Seung-jong (1562-1623) under Gwanghaegun belongs to another seat, so this may be a mix-up. Individuals could not be verified, so no person entries are proposed.
An Uiheung Park clan association exists, but its official website was not confirmed in this research.
The 의흥 박씨 clan association can be found in the Korean E-Jokbo Library clan-association directory.
