Main branches (派)

Chunggan-gong-pa, Uisanwi-gong-pa, Gangmu-gong-pa

Chunggan-gong-pa (忠簡公派)

The Chunggan-gong branch is made up of the descendants of Nam Ji (南智), an early Joseon official. A grandson of the founding merit subject and chief state councillor Nam Jae (南在) and son of Nam Gyeong-mun (南景文), he served as minister of revenue and right state councillor before becoming left state councillor.

When his in-law Grand Prince Anpyeong's family fell in the 1453 coup, he escaped harm because of illness. In 1489, at the petition of his grandson Nam Heun (南炘), he was posthumously named Chunggan (忠簡).

Uisanwi-gong-pa (宜山尉公派)

The Uisanwi-gong branch is made up of the descendants of Nam Hwi (南暉), a royal son-in-law of King Taejong. A son of Nam Gyeong-mun, he married Princess Jeongseon, Taejong's fourth daughter, was ennobled as Lord Uisan (宜山君), and served as associate commander and governor of Hanseong; his posthumous name was Sogan (昭簡).

The military official Nam I (南怡, 1441-1468), who became minister of war, was his grandson.

Gangmu-gong-pa (剛武公派)

The Gangmu-gong branch is made up of the descendants of Nam Eun (南誾, 1354-1398), a founding merit subject of Joseon, and takes its name from his posthumous name Gangmu (剛武). The son of Nam Eul-beon (南乙蕃) and younger brother of chief state councillor Nam Jae, he helped Yi Seong-gye with Jeong Do-jeon and others and became a first-rank founding merit subject.

He was killed in the First Strife of Princes in 1398, but under King Sejong he was posthumously named chief state councillor and Prince Uiseong, and enshrined in King Taejo's royal shrine.
