Life & career

Park Jin (also known as Park No-yeong, 1897-1968) was born in Wolsong-ri, Namsang-myeon, Jangheung County, South Jeolla Province, and traveled to Shanghai in May 1917, where he studied at the Shanghai YMCA and graduated in English from William's College. Beginning in May 1919 with the printing division of the Shanghai Youth League, he was active in numerous youth organizations, and was first elected a National Assembly representative for South Jeolla Province in April 1923, winning re-election in 1926 and 1931.

In 1924 he helped organize the Youth Alliance among Shanghai's Korean youth and served on its executive committee, and in 1925 he was elected a director of the New Korea Youth Party at its general assembly. In May 1931 he employed Yun Bong-gil, newly arrived in Shanghai, at Jongpum Gongsa, a hat-material manufacturing company where Park served as manager. Re-elected as a National Assembly representative for South Jeolla in 1943, he joined the Korean Independence Party, and in 1944 concurrently held posts in the Provisional Government's Finance Ministry general affairs section and its secretariat. The government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriot's Medal, in 1999.
