Bak Ui-byeong began his official career in 1885 as a clerk at Wonsan port, later serving as a provincial magistrate in South Hamgyong and as mayor of Hanseong (Seoul) in 1905, reaching senior second rank by the time of Japan's 1910 annexation of Korea. He subsequently served as a councilor of the colonial Central Advisory Council and on survey committees for military land in Pyongyang and Jinhae Bay, activities for which Korean government commissions and the Dictionary of Pro-Japanese Biographies list him as a collaborator. He died in 1929.
