Park Myeong-ryeol organized an anti-war secret society in Gongju and distributed manifestos, for which he was imprisoned.
A native of Gongju, he was expelled from Gongju Public High School in 1930 after leading anti-Japanese protests in solidarity with the Gwangju Student Independence Movement. In 1932 he was arrested for posting anti-war notices and manifestos around Yeongmyeong School and elsewhere, and was imprisoned for violating the Peace Preservation Law; he was later arrested again for organizing a reading society to spread anti-Japanese thought. He was posthumously awarded a Merit Medal in 1993.
