Choe Min-sik is an actor from Seoul who graduated from the Department of Theater and Film at Dongguk University. Beginning his acting career on the theater stage, he became active in film from the 1990s and established himself as a leading character actor of Korea.
He became widely known for the films Shiri (1999) and Oldboy (2003); Oldboy in particular won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The Admiral: Roaring Currents (2014), in which he played Yi Sun-sin, and Exhuma (2024) each drew over ten million viewers.
He has won the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best Actor several times, and received the Grand Prize in the film division at the 2015 Baeksang Arts Awards, earning high acclaim for his acting.
