Kim Jeong-guk was born on October 7, 1893, in Singok-ri, Gochon-myeon, Gimpo County, Gyeonggi Province, where he farmed. On March 24, 1919, he and Yun Jae-yeong gathered about fifty fellow villagers, climbed the hill behind the village, and led a torchlit demonstration waving Korean flags and shouting for independence.
He and several other ringleaders of the demonstration — Kim Nam-san, Kim Jeong-ui, Yun Jae-yeong and Yun Ju-seop — were arrested, tried, and imprisoned. Kim Jeong-guk died in 1920.
