Life & career
His courtesy name was Baekjeo, his pen name Hangyeokjae, and his posthumous title Munseong. Active from the reign of King Taejong through King Seongjong, he served as headmaster of the Hall of Worthies (daejehak), Minister of Personnel, and left state councillor, and rose to chief state councillor (yeonguijeong).
As a scholar of the Hall of Worthies under King Sejong, he took part in creating Hunminjeongeum and wrote the preface to the Haerye edition, and contributed greatly to compiling Yongbi eocheon-ga and to astronomical and calendrical projects such as the calendar treatise Chiljeongsan naepyeon.
Together with Kim Jong-seo and others he directed the compilation of the History of Goryeo (Goryeosa) and the Abridged History of Goryeo (Goryeosa jeollyo), organizing the history of the Goryeo dynasty. For his cooperation in the Gyeyu coup and King Sejo's accession he was enrolled as a merit subject. His works include the Hangyeokjae jip.

His grave is located in Oeryeong-ri, Buljeong-myeon, Goesan County, North Chungcheong Province.
