Jo Byeong-ok (趙炳玉, 1894-1960) was an independence activist and politician, with the art name Yuseok (維石). He earned a doctorate in economics from Columbia University in the United States.
After returning home, he participated in the founding of the Singanhoe and supported the Gwangju Student Movement, for which he endured several imprisonments. After liberation, he served as director of the Police Bureau under the US military government, and after the establishment of the Republic of Korea government, he served as Minister of Home Affairs.
As an opposition leader, he served as chief representative supreme council member of the Democratic Party, and passed away from illness in the United States in 1960, ahead of the presidential election.
