Ryu Geun passed the civil examination under King Seonjo and held key posts such as in the Office of Special Advisers and the Ministry of Rites. He is said to have been ennobled as Prince Jinwon for accompanying Seonjo during the Imjin War. Known for his writing and his role in receiving Ming envoys, he used the pen name Seogyeong (西坰) and is presented as a Jinju Ryu.
