Life & career
Seo Jin (徐晉) is the founding ancestor of the Dalseong Seo clan. During Goryeo he rose to Bongikdaebu Pandopanseo (Minister of Public Administration) and was enfeoffed as Lord of Dalseong; he is presumed to have been born around 1260-1280, in the reigns of King Wonjong and King Chungnyeol.
His mother was a daughter of Yi Ja-yeong, Lord of Jinwi, who served as Minister of Rites, and his wife was of the Chogye Ju clan. His son Seo Gi-jun served as Dogwanjwarang, and his grandson Seo Yeong as Chanseongsa.
His descendants took Dalseong (in Daegu) as their clan seat, and the Dalseong Seo clan grew into a prominent lineage that produced a family of three generations of State Councilors -- Seo Jong-tae, Seo Myeong-gyun, and Seo Ji-su -- as well as the practical-learning scholar Seo Yu-gu.

It produced a family of three consecutive State Councillors and the Silhak scholar Seo Yu-gu in the Joseon period.
