In October 2017 she became the first chair of the National Council for Education, a new presidential advisory body, serving until October 2018, when Kim Jin-kyung succeeded her. A native of Gangneung, where the clan has deep roots, she is listed in Korean Wikipedia's Yeongwol Shin category.
