Shin Jin-su (申鎭洙, 1938-2017) was a South Korean educator and politician of the Aju Shin clan. The body of a wiki article says he was born on 21 August 1938 in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang, and died on 19 March 2017, while its infobox gives other dates and a Daegu birthplace, so sources differ. His elder brother was Shin Jin-uk (Shin Jin-uk), a member of the 8th and 14th Assemblies.
He graduated from Daegu Normal School, studied at the University of Southern California's graduate school of education and earned an education doctorate at Abilene Christian University, and completed Yonsei University's graduate school of journalism. In 1978 he founded the Shinil educational foundation and Shinil junior college (now Suseong University), serving as dean, and was principal of Gyeongbok Middle School and Gyeongbuk Arts High School, a director of the Hyeopseong educational foundation, and a professor at Yeungnam and Keimyung universities.
In politics he was a member of the 11th National Assembly (Daegu Suseong-South, Democratic Korea Party) and the 13th (New Democratic Republican Party). He also held posts in education, youth and the press, including co-chair of a Christian church development council, international director of the Boy Scouts, president of international youth hostels and chairman of the Gyeongbuk Ilbo. His career is marked by moving between educational enterprise and politics.
His main achievement is founding the Shinil foundation in 1978, whose junior college continues as today's Suseong University. He also served as school principal, foundation executive and university professor.
He sat for the Democratic Korea Party in the 11th Assembly and the New Democratic Republican Party in the 13th. His move from an opposition-leaning party to a ruling-bloc party fits the party realignments of the time.
After Daegu Normal School he studied at the University of Southern California's graduate school of education, Abilene Christian University (doctorate in education) and Yonsei University's graduate school of journalism. A wide range of posts in education, religion and the press is listed: executive of the Hyeopseong foundation, professor at Yeungnam and Keimyung, co-chair of a church development council, Boy Scouts international director, youth hostels president and Gyeongbuk Ilbo chairman.
His burial place is not given in the sources consulted.
His elder brother is Shin Jin-uk. Other family details are not covered.
