Life & career
Yi Hwang (李璜) is the founder of the Goseong Yi clan. According to the clan genealogy he passed the civil examination under King Deokjong of Goryeo, served as Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Secretariat and was made Lord Cheollyeong for repelling the Khitan. These honors are not confirmed in the official histories and are best read as clan tradition. He is a different person from the Joseon scholar Toegye Yi Hwang (李滉).
