Yun Ui-jung (1524-1590) was a mid-Joseon civil official of the Haenam Yun clan, courtesy name Chiwon and pen names Nakcheon and Taecheon. His great-grandfather was Yun Gyeong, his grandfather Yun Hyo-jeong, his father the section chief Yun Gu, and his mother a daughter of Im Hyu. He rose to Vice Minister of War, Inspector-General and Minister of Punishments, and is known as grandfather of Yun Seon-do.
He passed the jinsa examination in 1543 and the special civil examination in 1548. After serving as royal secretary and in Hongmungwan posts, he went to Jeju as a comforting envoy in 1555 and became Ijo Jeongrang. In the 1560s he served as Dongbu Seungji, head of Seonggyungwan, Vice Provost, Chief Royal Secretary and Grand Remonstrator, and in 1566 became Vice Minister of Taxation. He was a provincial governor of Gyeongsang and took part in compiling the Veritable Records of Myeongjong.
In the 1570s he served as governor of Pyeongan, Vice Minister of War, Inspector-General and Vice Minister of Rites, and in 1581 he became Minister of Punishments. In 1589 he was involved in the Giuk purge and dismissed - Wikipedia gives the reason as being maternal uncle of Yi Bal - and in 1610 he was rehabilitated at the request of his son Yun Yu-gi. His eldest son Yun Yu-sim was Yun Seon-do's birth father, and his second son Yun Yu-gi, a governor of Gangwon, became Seon-do's adoptive father.
After passing the special examination in 1548 he held key posts including royal secretary, head of Seonggyungwan, vice provost, chief royal secretary and governor. Precise dates follow the Encyclopedia of Korean Culture.
He was dismissed in the 1589 Giuk purge following Jeong Yeo-rip's case. Wikipedia does not name Jeong Yeo-rip directly and says only that he was implicated as maternal uncle of Yi Bal. He was restored in 1610. See also his grandson Yun Seon-do.
His tomb was not confirmed.
He had sons Yun Yu-sim and Yun Yu-gi; his grandson was Yun Seon-do.
