The clan is said to descend from Park Eon-chang, Grand Prince Sabeol, but its early lineage is lost; it honors Park Ji-yeong as its middle founding ancestor. In the 2015 Census the 평택 박씨 clan numbered about 629 people, one of Korea's major surnames and clans. Even among people surnamed 박, a different clan seat (bon-gwan, 평택) means a different lineage. New to these terms? See the bon-gwan, pa & hangnyeol guide.
Over the generations the 평택 박씨 clan divided into several branches (pa). Confirm which branch your family belongs to through your jokbo or clan association. See the bon-gwan, pa & hangnyeol guide.

The Pyeongtaek Park takes Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi as its seat and is said to descend from Eon-chang (彦昌), Grand Prince Sabeol, fifth son of Silla's King Gyeongmyeong. Its earlier lineage is lost, however, and the family line is counted from Park Ji-yeong (朴之永), said to have been magistrate of Pyeongtaek in early Joseon (some sources give a different title).
Eon-chang, fifth of the eight princes, is also honored as founder of the Sangju Park. The Korean Wikipedia article on the Sangju Park states that Park Ji-yeong split off from Sangju as Pyeongtaek, whereas Pyeongtaek-side accounts only say the earlier lineage is lost, so the link is not settled. The princely descent is a tradition.
Ji-yeong's son Park San, vice minister of Punishments, was implicated in the 1456 plot to restore King Danjong, after which his descendants are said to have taken Pyeongtaek, his father's posting, as their seat. Some sources instead say he was exiled to North Hamgyeong and settled there, so the accounts conflict.
The 2000 census counted 202 households and 629 people nationwide, with 3 households and 18 people in Pyeongtaek city. A 2015 figure was not found in this survey. Descendants are said to have lived widely in northern areas such as Musan County in North Hamgyeong.
One clan overview lists Park Jun-geom (military officer), Park In-gyu (frontier post commander at Onseong) and Park Gyu-neung, presented as the only civil-examination passer, in 1886. It is a small seat with few prominent figures in Joseon.
No separate branch divisions, association website or generation names were found in public sources. Because the seat is small, please verify the exact genealogy with the family register and clan records.
