He trained a righteous army and fought the Japanese near the Tumen River, and on October 26, 1909, he shot dead Ito Hirobumi, the ringleader of the invasion, at Harbin Station, then died for the nation in Lushun Prison. In prison he left behind the treatise "On Peace in East Asia" (Dongyang Pyeonghwaron).
