He organized a labor union in Japan to campaign for Korean workers' rights and died shortly after his release from prison.
Bak Se-yong (1907–1935), from Seobu-ri, Gijang-myeon, Dongnae County (present-day Busan), also used the alias Bak Hwi-il. After moving to Japan he became active in the labor movement in Toyama City from 1929, serving as an executive of the Toyama Construction Workers' Union under the National Labor Union Council to advance the rights of fellow Koreans. When 43 union members were arrested together on November 30, 1931, he was among them; indicted in February 1932, he was sentenced to six years and imprisoned at Kanazawa Prison. Suffering from pleurisy and tuberculosis, he was released on medical parole in June 1935 but died from the aftereffects two months later, on August 12, 1935. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriot's Medal, in 2006.
