Bak Yeong-hui, born Bak Geo-bok, was a leading figure of Korea's early proletarian literature movement, co-founding the KAPF (Korea Artista Proleta Federatio) writers' league in the 1920s before renouncing leftist ideology in 1934. During the war years he promoted the imperial volunteer-soldier and conscription programs as an executive of the pro-Japanese Korean Writers' Patriotic Association, serving as its general affairs chief in 1943, for which Korean government commissions and the Dictionary of Pro-Japanese Biographies list him as a collaborator. He disappeared after leaving Seoul during the Korean War in 1950 and is presumed to have been taken to North Korea.
