Park Yeong-seon (1908-1994) was born in Seoncheon County, North Pyongan Province, and moved with his family to Xingjing County in Manchuria the following year. In 1925 he joined the Jeongui-bu (Righteous Government), serving under a unit commanded by Jeong I-hyeong, and after the Jeongui-bu was reorganized into the Gungmin-bu (National Government), he served — drawing on his fluency in Chinese — as an aide to Yang Se-bong, commander of the 2nd company of the Gungmin-bu's Korean Revolutionary Army.
When Yang Se-bong was killed in a Japanese police raid in 1934, Park traveled to the Provisional Government of Korea in Hangzhou to report on the situation. In 1935 he enlisted in the Chinese Nationalist Army's 2nd Group Army and served as commander of the 1st division of its National Salvation Army until liberation in 1945. Afterward he served as commander of the Preparatory Command for the National Armed Forces, contributing to the founding of the Korean military, and when the Special Committee for the Investigation of Anti-National Activities was formed in 1948, he served as chief of its detective unit. The government awarded him the Order of Founding Merit in 1977 and, in 1990, posthumously upgraded this to the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriot's Medal.
