Park Yu-seong, of Deokjin-myeon, Yeongam (also known by the name Park Jin-sang), led a youth movement resisting the unfair transfer of tenant farming rights. In 1931 he established a night school in Deokjin-myeon to educate local residents, and the following year staged the play A Wife's Regret to raise anti-Japanese awareness. In 1932 he led about 70 Yeongam youths gathered at Hyeongjebong, Yeongam-ri, Deokjin-myeon, in a protest against unjust transfers of tenancy rights, for which he was arrested by Japanese police and imprisoned.
