His pen name (ho) was Uisan (義山). A Cheondogyo believer, he led the March 1st Movement, then went into exile in Shanghai and served as director of the local bureau of the Provisional Government's Home Affairs Ministry, in the Jeonguibu, as head of the Hwaseong Uisuk academy, in the Korean Revolutionary Party and the Korean National Revolutionary Party (Minjok Hyeongmyeongdang), as vice-chairman of the Provisional Legislative Assembly (Imsi Uijeongwon), and as minister of justice of the Provisional Government, among other posts. After liberation he took part in the North-South negotiations and was abducted to the North during the Korean War (6·25).
