Guk Ju (鞠周) is the founder of the Damyang Guk clan. According to Korean Wikipedia he was born in 1101 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, as a court official under Emperor Huizong of Song, and after the Jingkang incident of 1127 he came to Goryeo in 1128 and naturalized. These dates and deeds rest largely on a single source, so check your genealogy.
In Goryeo he began as a Gamjeonggwan and went as envoy to the Jin, where he is said to have secured an equal, neighbourly relationship against Jin demands for a lord-vassal relationship. For this King Injong made him Lord of Chuseong with the rank Samjung Daegwang, and gave him Damyang as his seat. Damyang had been Chujahye-gun under Baekje and Chuseong-gun under Silla's King Gyeongdeok, so his title echoes the old name of the place.
Wikipedia lists the following generations: Guk Ji-won (2nd, Pyeongjangsa), Guk Yeong-don (3rd), Guk Seong-yun (4th), Guk Ho (5th, Chief Councillor), Guk Dam (7th, Grand Academician) and Guk Ryang (8th, Minister of Military Affairs). These were not cross-checked. The claim that the surname goes back to Guk Do, descendant of the ancient Houji, is closer to legend and should not be taken as fact.
He came to Goryeo in 1128 after the Jingkang incident and went to the Jin under Injong; Wikipedia says he argued against a lord-vassal relationship and led a neighbourly one.
Damyang was Chujahye-gun under Baekje and Chuseong-gun under Silla, became Damyang-gun in 1018 and a protectorate in 1413, was demoted to a county in 1728, and absorbed Changpyeong in 1914.
Later figures include the 9th-generation Guk Yu and Guk Gyeong-rye of early Joseon.
