Known by the pen name Bangsan, Heo Hun is presented as a member of the same Gimhae Heo family of Seonsan as Heo Wi. His collected works, Bangsan Seonsaeng Munjip, are said to have been published in 1909, and he is known to have raised a righteous army around Jinbo (now in Cheongsong) during the Eulmi uprising.
His exact kinship to Heo Wi (whether brothers) and details of his activities could not be confirmed.
