Life & career

Yi Gi-sang (李起商, 1871–1915) served as secretary to Heo Wi (pen name Wangsan) in his righteous army, and later joined the Korean Independence Righteous Army Headquarters (Daehan Dokrip Uigunbu) organized by Im Byeong-chan.

In 1914 he was arrested together with his younger brother Yi Gi-yeong (Heo Wi's son-in-law) and fellow activist Kim Chang-sik, and he died in prison on June 30, 1915. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Medal, in 2005.
