Yi Han (李翰) is the founding ancestor of the Jeonju Yi clan. He is said to have held the office of Sagong (司空) during the Silla period, and from among his descendants came King Taejo Yi Seong-gye, who founded Joseon.
The Jeonju Yi clan was the royal surname of the Joseon dynasty; King Taejo Yi Seong-gye is handed down as the 22nd-generation descendant of Yi Han. Across some 500 years of Joseon it produced the successive kings and countless royal kinsmen and notable figures, making it one of Korea's representative surname groups.
His 22nd-generation descendant was King Taejo Yi Seong-gye, and the Joseon royal house is of that line.
