Lee Seung-ho, from Buan, North Jeolla Province (pen name Unam), began providing funds to the Shanghai-based Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in November 1920, donating 600 won at the request of independence activist Lee Wan-sik and others. He gave three more donations in 1921 — 200, 1,800 and 1,000 won — for a total of 3,600 won across four contributions.
He was arrested and later released by Japanese police after his activities came to light. He also distributed hundreds of sacks of grain to the poor, funded the founding of Boseong College, and donated land for the athletic field of Buan Public Elementary School. He died in 1966, and a monument honoring him was erected at Buan Elementary School in 2004.
