As a platoon leader of the Chamuibu, Yi Ui-jun led armed raids including an attack on a Kanggye police outpost.
In August 1922 he crossed into Manchuria with Kim Chang-gyun and was appointed 1st platoon leader of the Chamuibu's 1st Company. In August 1923 he raided the Cheongpung police substation of Kanggye Police Station, killing Japanese officers and setting fire to it, and in 1925 he led 24 men in a firefight with a police search party at Changgok Mountain in Kanggye. He was arrested in connection with an attempted assassination of Governor-General Saito Makoto and was executed. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Independence Medal, in 1968.
