Life & career

He organized a militia unit in response to Choe Ik-hyeon's righteous army and raised funds for the cause before dying in prison as a martyr. A native of Bibong-myeon, Wanju County, North Jeolla Province, he was a nephew of Yu Jung-hwa of the Goheung Yu clan, and from the autumn of 1907 he joined Yu Ji-myeong, Song Tae-sik, and others in organizing a militia and taking part in the anti-Japanese resistance; he was captured and died in prison.
