Jeong Hae (?-1305) was a Goryeo civil official from Cheongju, early name Jeong Hyeon-gye, courtesy name Hoeji. A grandson of the grand general Jeong Ui, he held posts including Mipjik official and chancellery councillor. His posthumous title was Janggyeong.
Orphaned early but diligent in study, he passed the examination, was appointed to the Secretariat and, early under King Chungnyeol, served as a scribe, accompanying the king to Yuan before becoming a palace usher. In 1292 he became right royal secretary in charge of personnel and was praised for fairness, then served as Jisinsa, Namgyeong governor and Gwangneung governor, rising to Jimipjik in 1298, but was dismissed the next year for falsely accusing Han Hui-yu.
In 1303 he became Mipjik official, in 1304 head of the Three Offices and in 1305 chancellery councillor, dying in office. That year he supervised the examinations as chief examiner, selecting Han Jong-yu, Kim Yeong-don, Jang Ja-bin and others, and received Yuan titles. He was said to be gentle and quiet in mind yet quick and brave at work.
As right royal secretary in 1292 Jeong Hae handled personnel and was praised for fairness. In 1298, soon after becoming Jimipjik, he was implicated in falsely accusing Han Hui-yu and was dismissed the next year, but he returned in 1303 and rose to the highest post. Such dismissals and returns were not rare in the late-Goryeo power structure.
That in 1305 he served as chief examiner, selecting Han Jong-yu, Kim Yeong-don and Jang Ja-bin, shows his scholarly standing. In the generation of his grandsons Jeong O and Jeong Po the family split into the Seolheon and Seolgok lines, and both won names as civil families. Jeong Hae is understood as a figure midway in the family's turn from a military house under his grandfather Jeong Ui to a civil one.
The location of his grave was not confirmed.
His grandsons Jeong O and Jeong Po are the middle founders of the Seolheon and Seolgok lines.
