Ju Jae-seong (1681-1743), pen name Guktam, is described as a collateral descendant of Ju Se-bung, a scholar and militia leader. He raised a volunteer force during the 1728 rebellion of Yi In-jwa and Jeong Hui-ryang, and after his death in 1788 his tablet was enshrined at Giyang Seowon. The Guktam Munjip published by descendants in 1908 contains his poems and writings, documents on the uprising, and the household-ritual guide Geoga Yobeom; its 56 woodblocks are Gyeongnam Tangible Cultural Property No. 242, managed by the Sangju Ju clan.
