Life & career

Ju Yeong-bok (1927-2005), born in Haman, South Gyeongsang, was a military officer who studied in Japan, trained at Japanese flying schools and joined the ROK Air Force, retiring in April 1979. He is described as the longest-serving Air Force Chief of Staff and, after December 12, served as Minister of National Defense (1979-1982) and Minister of Home Affairs (1983-1985). In 1997 the Supreme Court sentenced him to seven years over the 12·12 coup and the Gwangju uprising; he was later pardoned.
