Ju Seok-myeon (朱錫冕) was an official of the Korean Empire. His dates of birth and death could not be confirmed. In his petition he described himself as a 30th-generation descendant of Zhu Xi. His title is given as Director of the Records Bureau of the Wonsubu (Board of Marshals) in the Annals of King Gojong, but as Chanjeong of the Uijeongbu (State Council) in the Shinailbo.
His petition is recorded in the Annals of King Gojong under October 8, 1902 (solar calendar), the 39th year of Gojong's reign. It stated that Zhu Xi's eighth-generation ancestor Zhu Gui (朱瓌) moved from Huangdun in Shezhou to Wuyuan in Huizhou during the Tianyou era of the Tang dynasty. Because the family's forebears were people of Xin'an in Wu Commandery, they took Xin'an as their seat. It also stated that Ju Jam, the founder in Korea, was the third son of Zhu Ju and a grandson of Zhu Xi's second son Zhu Ye, and that he came to Goryeo.
King Gojong replied that the seat should "be restored to Sinan." The clan, until then known as the Neungseong Ju clan, agreed and adopted Sinan as its seat. The September 7 date found in other sources appears to follow the lunar calendar. In 1969 the Neungseong Ju Clan Association also renamed itself the Sinan Ju Clan Association.
His title is given as Director of the Records Bureau of the Wonsubu (Annals of King Gojong) or as Chanjeong of the Uijeongbu (Shinailbo). The petition date is October 8 by the solar calendar in the Annals, or September 7 in other sources, which appears to be a lunar date.
The location of his grave could not be confirmed.
